I’ve gotten into a new show on HBO…

Westworld.

No, not that Westworld.

It’s similar in concept to the 1973 Michael Crichton story in that both are set in a future where people visit an Old West “theme park.”  But that’s pretty much where the similarities end.

The 2016 version has been modernized with discussions about programming structure, questions about existential philosophy and moral relativism, the complications of story/game development, all presented with a copious amount of boobs.  (It is HBO, after all.)

And it’s proven to be pretty damn good so far.  I feel comfortable saying that it’s one of the most intelligent shows that I’ve ever seen on television.

Now, that being said, we’re only two episodes in.

I was convinced Black Sails was going to be amazing after the first 4 or 5 episodes, then the writers decided to put a bunch of sexual confusion and self-loathing in my silly pirate show.

Things in Westworld do have the potential to go Michael Bay at any moment.

But hopefully they’re smarter than that.
