The EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC. Gettin’ all acronymy up in here.
Yeah, I get excited about this stuff.
See, over the past couple weeks Overwatch would occasionally stutter and screen tear after I’d been playing for a couple hours, which makes the game impossible to play since I’m only seeing myself (and everyone else), move about 3 or 4 times per second. This was caused by my graphics card starting to overheat.
Well not anymore.
With this beastly thing connected to my system, I cranked the settings up to “ULTRA” and everything’s still smooth as buttah. Which is saying something in a game like Overwatch, where playing it is almost like watching an animated film.
Yes, that’s what the game really looks like.
Sadly, I have to admit that I’d intended on upgrading my processor as well, because my Oculus Rift is coming in a couple months and it will require a bit more data crunching power.
Summer’s must-have accessory for hirsute geeks everywhere.
So I ordered an Intel i7 3.3 GhZ processor to go along with the video card. But clearly I wasn’t paying attention when I ordered it, as I got the wrong socket type and it wouldn’t fit in my motherboard.
Fortunately this occurred to me prior to opening the box, so I simply returned it to the local Best Buy for a refund.
I guess I’ll worry about running the Rift once it arrives in May. (Or thereabouts.) It’s possible I could just overclock my rig a bit too. We’ll see.
Okay, I think I’ve met my geek quota for one post. I’ll see you crazy kids next week.
