Magical Shark Armada

Haven’t done one of these in a few weeks now, so I’m not sure where to begin…

Let’s start with Ernest Cline’s newest novel, “Armada.” It comes out on Tuesday and I absolutely CANNOT WAIT to read it.

His first book, “Ready Player One,” scores highly on my “Top 5 Books” list, and this one promises to be every bit as good.
Well, I hope so anyway.
It’s going to be hard to live up to a novel whose protagonist quotes Ghostbusters on the first page, and uses, “You have been recruited by the Star League to defend The Frontier against Xur, and the Kodan armada” as his computer password.
Seriously, if you loved 80’s pop culture (particularly 80’s geek culture), and you haven’t read Ready Player One, you should stop reading this right now and go find a copy.

And then there’s this…

Yes, that’s a group of people floating on innertubes while watching “Jaws.”  Alamo Drafthouse is showing it at the Texas Ski Ranch in New Braunfels this weekend (and a couple weekends in the future), and it seems like it’d be one helluva good time.  Jen and I thought seriously about it for a day or so, but came to the conclusion that it would just be way too difficult to wrangle Daphne and both of the dogs in order to go.

Not to mention it would cost us $100 just to get in, which is kinda hard to justify when I already own the Blu-Ray and it’s collecting dust just beneath my television set.

Tonight is also the start of the Sox/Yanks series, the last games before we hit the All Star Break.  Boston has actually been on a tear recently, and are now only 5 games out of first place.  Which is a feat in itself given how badly they sucked for the first half of the season.

DaphneSox2Terrible or not, we’re still fans.

And finally, Magic Origins releases tomorrow.  The set as a whole seems comparatively underpowered, but I do think a mono-white deck might become viable.  All it’s missing is a decent high-end use for Nykthos mana.

And yes, I realize that was complete gibberish to most of you.  Sorry.  It was more for posterity than anything else.

Okay kids.  Have a great weekend.  See you Monday.
