Could You Zendikare Less?

freeplayfri

Hi ho, Bumble the Dad here.

So today at noon marks the release of Battle for Zendikar on Magic Online.  And as such it’s mandatory that I geek out for a little bit.

Zendikar-Pre-Release

Poor Gideon there.  He’s gone from being eerily reminiscent of Bruce Willis…

brucegideon“Yippie ki yay, Ulamogger.”

to looking like that really intense guy who hangs out at your local Starbucks all day.

creepygideon“Venti Mocha Frappuccino.  Niiice.  That chocolate is triggering sexually-charged chemicals in your brain.  Right now…”

Fortunately for him he’s kind of a badass this time around.  Paper copies of his card have already hit $35, and I don’t expect them to head south anytime soon.  Which means he’s allowed to be a coffee house creeper…because at that value he’s just “eccentric.”

We also have the new dual lands, and the artwork for them is lovely:

newdualsAlthough the “Prairie Stream” one does look a bit like Minecraft fan art.

Jen actually bought me a couple lithographs of some Jon Avon lands a while ago, and I have them framed upstairs near my computer.  They’re some of my favorite pieces of art.

Anyway, I’m not going to go into the relative power level of this set versus the ones that came before it (it’s low), and what effect these cards are going to have on Standard (not much), because none of you care about that kind of thing and I’m not about wasting anyone’s time.

Suffice to say that, if you’re looking for me this weekend, I’ll be stomping around the house grumpily and swearing at my computer screen, lamenting my poor card draws and “mana screw.”

What a joy I’m going to be.  (Sorry sweetie.)
