Finally!

Overwatch.  Has.  Released.

They’re not taking it, or any of my skins/sprays/highlights/levels/etc, away ever again.

So, in celebration, I thought I’d do a minor film fest of all the “shorts” that they’ve created to date.

NO WAIT!  DON’T GO!

Before you close your browser and check out because, “I don’t like the vidja games,” you should know that these short films are every bit as good as anything you’d see from Pixar, and each one is only 5-7 minutes long.

Even if you don’t know the characters, or the backstory, and even if you have zero desire to actually play the game, they’re still worth your time. Because the stories they’re telling and world that’s created through these small vignettes is pretty damn interesting.

So first, we have the one that started it all.  Yes, the opening is very cheesy, but if you last through the first minute you’ll see why.

Then, we have one of my personal favorites, the story of Winston.  The jetpack-wearing, lightning shooting, peanut butter-obsessed, emo moon gorilla.  And as I’ve mentioned in the past, this one also happens to be Daphne’s favorite.

Followed by some exposition on the humans vs. robots ( or “omnics”) struggle that’s happening.   We also learn a bit about Widowmaker in this one.

This next one is about Hanzo and Genji, and it is very close to being my favorite so far.  (I do love me some Winston, after all.)  I won’t say any more, so as to avoid spoiling anything.

And finally, we have the one that was released just this week that’s all about Soldier 76.  This one was…fine I guess. Soldier isn’t one of my favorite heroes, so I’m probably a little biased against it.

And that’s it.
That’s the story we’ve gotten to date.

Although, for you Game of Thrones fans out there, Conan O’ Brien, Peter Dinklage, and Lena Headey did play the game on Conan’s “Clueless Gamer” segment this week.  To be honest, I wasn’t much of a fan of it since he seemed to spend an unseemly amount of time obsessing over Widowmaker’s butt.
Diff’rent strokes I guess.

Okay that’s it.  Hopefully you guys enjoyed some of those.  Because I absolutely adore them.

See you guys on Monday Tuesday.   (Yes, I’m taking Memorial Day off from blogging too.)
